Burgess Hill’s future – have your say

by Simon Hicks on 3 February, 2011

Consultation has begun on a twenty year plan to shape the future of Burgess Hill, with an exhibition and questionnaire for residents and visitors to feedback on the proposals.  The proposals include a revitalised town centre, new housing and employment, as well as developing the green circle and encouraging sustainable transport options.

The plan is available for viewing at the Town Council Offices in Church Walk during office hours or for the next six Saturday mornings at the Market Place Shopping Centre until March 5th between 9.30am-12.30pm when councillors will be in attendance to answer any questions you may have, and to encourage your feedback by completing the attached questionnaire.

We want to see investment in improving the town centre, better and more open space, investment in public transport and improved traffic management, as well as new schools and community facilities.  We are particular concerned that new social housing for rent and starter homes for young families are included in any plans, and welcome the proposals for a new business park to the west of Burgess Hill that could attract substantial numbers of new jobs to the area.

The plan proposes over 4,000 new houses over the period of the plan, mainly on the north side of the town, particularly in the area from the west of Freeks Lane to land surrounding St Paul’s Catholic College.  The aim is to protect and enhance the existing green spaces within Burgess Hill whilst allowing planned new development which integrates with the existing town and brings real benefits to all residents.

Do therefore view the proposals and tell us what you think by completing the questionnaire available at the exhibition.  The display boards and questionnaire, are available on Burgess Hill Town Council website: www.burgeshill.gov.uk/strategicvision and the questionnaire can be completed on-line.
